Bratislava is an easy destination to get to if you live in Vienna. A little road trip will be well worth the visit – only 45-minute drive and you’re there! Beginning of November I picked the historical boutique hotel Arcadia located in Bratislava old town.

The 5-star hotel is a 13th-century listed building, where you can enjoy a romantic interlude in the city with shops, bars and restaurants on your doorstep (hint for Vienna expats: shops and malls in Bratislava are open 7 days a week!).

Once you step inside the hotel building, you feel transported back in time – arched hallways, old style romantic furnishings and a beautifully painted glass ceiling will catch your eye.

If you decide to book the hotel, choose the Luxury Maisonette Suite (stars like Julio Iglesias stayed in). The 72sqm Maisonette Suite is located on the top floor overlooking the old town and boasts a spacious living room with fire-place, relaxing seating plus a romantic bedroom.

Hotel Arcadia includes also the historical refurbished L’Olive Restaurant which serves specialities of modern Slovak cuisine.
I’ve been there with a group of Vienna based expats and we enjoyed every minute – it was a wonderful step back in time to a bygone era! And my favorite: the awesome whirlpool at Arcadia Spa.
If you wish to explore the historical area, the hotel is just a short walk from the St. Martin’s Cathedral and the Opera House. Given the location and the atmosphere, Arcadia Hotel Bratislava is the ideal choice for a short weekend getaway.
