Looking for a vacation sure to wow your family this summer? Don’t miss Portoroz! I recently spent a long weekend at the Kempinski Palace Portoroz, the most luxurious hotel in Slovenia, and would return without second thought.
OVERVIEW
Located in a former palace, the hotel is brimming with charm and elegance – no wonder Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren have stayed here in the 1950s. Nowadays it attracts a well-heeled international clientele but it’s still popular with stylish Italians.

This uniquely designed hotel offers a special blend of old and new: it’s airy, elegant with a subtle touch of Istria, and luminous and panoramic, thanks to the abundant use of glass. With so much space, it’s easy for each traveler to find a quiet corner, and families with young children or loved-up couples will never feel crowded.
WELLNESS & SPA
Just to be clear – Kempinski Palace Portoroz is the perfect place to go if your goal is swim, sunbathe, repeat! Especially if you love salt water pools which are definitely superior in feel & smell.
We were lucky to have the pools all to ourselves in the morning and enjoyed the comfy lounges and the invigorating jacuzzi. But also later on life around the pool was sheer bliss. Why’s that? Because the upscale Rose Spa draws guests who tend to be more focused on peace and serenity.

From peelings and wraps to massages and facials, you’ll find everything at the Rose Spa. Connoisseurs will applaud the Elemis star treatments – especially the Elemis Absolute Spa Ritual. You’ll pay 218 Euro for a 120 min treatment … but hey, you deserve it! It’s proven now: experiences make you happier than things.

After indulging in the Rose Spa, there’s nothing better than a walk on the beach, located only 150 m from the hotel. Go there and spoil yourself with a Coconut Daiquiri served in a pineapple cup! Drink it on the jetty and let the sun warm you up.
RESTAURANTS & BARS
There’s one thing for certain and that is that the Kempinski Palace Portoroz knows how to set the scene. The staff is friendly and committed and they are always there to make sure you have a royal meal.
We had breakfast in the Crystal Hall, the famous Ball Room where the Austrian aristocracy used to dance & wine. This incredibly hall is flushed with white walls, heavy curtains, marble, and mirrors. At the center of it all is this elegant chandelier.
For lunch we went to the sea food restaurants located on the beach but we spent our evenings at the Bubbles Bar and the Palace Club Lounge.
Sleek and sophisticated, the Palace Club Lounge is perfect for guests who are looking to lay back and enjoy some delicious drinks. On Saturday, there is live music here and if you want to splurge, this is the place to do it! Choose one of their special champagnes, ranging from the Taittinger Brut to the Clos du Messnil 1996, and indulge in the lavishness of pure delight.

ROOMS & SUITES
The hotel offers well appointed rooms & suites with fabulously comfortable beds, generous bathrooms and all the amenities you need. For those that like a few extras, call room service to enjoy a perfect breakfast in the living room.

What’s cool? The good news is that Kempinski Palace Portoroz is a pet friendly hotel and dogs are allowed for an extra charge of EUR 30 per night.
TO DOS WHILE YOU’RE HERE
Whether you’re visiting Portoroz on an extended vacation or only for a few days, a day trip to Piran is a must. Crystal clear water, fresh seafood, and delicious house wines await you in this small & charming village.

In Piran you’ll find a variety of lovely cafes, bars and restaurants along the promenade… and I bet, you’ll be tempted to order their whole menu.

Sea food fans and spa lovers, are you ready for this trip? If you care about style and refinement, GO THERE!
Thank you to Kempinski Palace Portoroz for welcoming Expat Trip! Opinions are, as always, my own.
