Tuscany’s hotel scene keeps booming, and although many hotels boast of their sea views, very few are actually located on the shores of the sea. So if you’re looking for a unique waterfront retreat, Relais Torre Mozza meets all the requirements for an out of the ordinary vacation.
Located in Piombino – the central part of the Gulf of Follonica – this small exclusive hotel features stunning views to the long stretch of coast, and an impressive 16th-century watchtower, which is literally at the water’s edge.

As the wind blows mostly from the north-west, the Gulf of Follonica is sheltered and the water is flat most of the times. Only very small waves break here into these white foamy lines that look like lace curtains.
On clear days, you can see Elba and Corsica Island, and if you’re lucky enough even the tiny Monte Cristo Island – which was immortalised by Alexandre Dumas in “The Count of Monte Cristo” as the site of an enormous hidden treasure.

In short, Torre Mozza is a romantic seafront location that’s best for adults seeking quiet and privacy. You’ll find mostly Italians vacationing here – loyal guests who return year after year.
Overview
Torre Mozza features a gorgeous shaded terrace, where you can spend lazy hours sipping on fresh squeezed juices. The view here is amazing and the breeze is at its best!
The sun gets hot at noon, and the cosy sofas are perfect for enjoying a genuine espresso experience. You’ll love the changing color of the water – from pale blue to turquoise, and from dark blue to sapphire. So, what more can you ask for?

Suites
Housed within this luxurious historical residence are 8 suites, overlooking the sea. All of them are named after famous sailing ships and galleons of the past, famous for their successful ventures.
If you go as a couple, than opt for the Santa Maria Suite. This spectacular suite is located on the 3rd floor, featuring 30 sq m and a large terrace with sun loungers. It’s all about the finer things in life here, so expect design furniture, awesome views and an authentic Italian feel. Oh, and did I mention the inviting bathtub?

The position above the sea means there is always something going on to watch. You can linger on the terrace every morning & night, and you’ll probably shake your head at the wonder of it all.

Once you step out of the hotel, you reach the private beach area, with 8 umbrellas reserved only for hotel guests. Lounge chairs are spread a comfortable distance apart, so slow down and savor the breeze and the scent of the sea.
Delicious Eats
Torre Mozza Ristorante provides a hearty prepared breakfast each morning, and you’ll be served delicious Ricotta, fresh fruits, Italian sausages, pastries and cooked-to-order omelets.

Head for lunch at the beach tavern (not part of the hotel), where you can enjoy excellent seafood and pasta. Make sure to order a Caciucco, the most famous of Livornese dishes – it tastes much better than a Bouillabaisse, exceeding all expectations.

When it comes to dinner, Torre Mozza Ristorante is a real foodie place! All dishes are created with love and Italian inventiveness. And you’d better come hungry, because I can guarantee you’ll be spoiled for choice with the fantastic range of starters.

Enjoy the mouth-watering local cuisine and dine the night away in serene surroundings! You’ll love the food here and the wines on offer are sensational. Indulge in Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Bolgheri, Suvereto or Morellino di Scansano.

Moreover, the ambiance of the restaurant is a feast for the eyes: Italian couples are dressed to perfection with awesome designer clothing tailored to fit perfectly. So make sure to put on your gorgeous dress & stilettos, and wear them with an air of unstudied, effortless elegance. GO GLAM!
To Dos While You’re Here
Rent a car and go explore the Etruscan Coast with its sleepy villages, and magnific landscape – visit Bolgheri, Massa Marittima, Suvereto and Populonia. Don’t miss out on Cala Violina – one of the most beautiful beaches in southern Tuscany. When you walk on the white sand, it squeaks like a violin, and the seagulls sing along with you.
Trust me, life is better in flip-flops! If you’re looking for a calm, relaxing getaway in Tuscany, Torre Mozza is a premier pick.
I still wonder if the beach misses me… if so, I would return in a heartbeat! Congrats to Nicolò Bussotti for this Tuscan gem!
