Looking for a cozy brand new chalet facing the gorgeous peaks of the Austrian Alps? It exists, I found it at the Leading Family Hotel & Resort Dachsteinkönig, the Ultra All-Inclusive Kinderhotel – which has been nominated for the World Luxury Hotel Awards in the “Luxury Family Hotel” and “Luxury New Hotel” category.
Set at the foot of the Dachstein massif, just 100 metres from the cable car station leading up to the Dachstein West ski area, the 12 chalets offer privacy and relaxation in huge doses.
Accommodation
Now let’s have a look at the 157 square meters Premium Chalet Dachsteinkönig! The family chalet boasts 2 floors – the ground floor features a living room with fireplace, dining area and kitchenette, one bedroom, a luxury bathroom with panorama sauna, spacious shower and children’s wash basin.
On the top floor there is a bedroom with walk-in closet plus adjacent bathroom with bathtub, shower and two sinks, a second bedroom, a children’s room with two single beds, and a bathroom with shower. Further amenities: hardwood floors, SAT-TV, WiFi (free), telephone, safe, blow dryer, coffee maker, terrace and two balconies with panoramic view. This chalet is suitable for 5 or more people, and is perfect for a quiet family getaway.
Special Note: Please be advised that the chalets and the hotel are only bookable by families with children! Families with babies (0 – 2 years) might prefer to book the Premium Suite Liesl (49 sq m Family Suite with bedsitting room) located in the hotel.
Wellness & Spa
And since relaxation is key, you should consider visiting the wellness area. Several pools (including a family water play area) are available for swimming, splashing around or simply just enjoying a relaxing float. Parents can also relax in the sauna world or have the stresses of everyday life massaged away in the SPA.
Delicious Eats
This Ultra All-Inclusive Kinderhotel offers gourmet cuisine virtually around the clock. There is a generous breakfast (7:30 – 10:30), lunch buffet (12:00 – 13:30), afternoon buffet (13:30 – 17:00), and themed evening buffet (18:00 – 20:30) with live cooking stations. In addition, the buffet for the kids starts at 17:30!
Dinners here – roasted lamb one night, delicious branzino the next – are accompanied by top wines. Over and above that, the desserts are spectacular!
Kids Club
The Leading Family Hotel & Resort Dachsteinkönig is a wonderful playground all year round and has endless activities on offer. It boasts a 2,000 m² indoor play area, and an outdoor play area with 17-meter-long bouncy castle and trampolines.
But the highlight here is the professional baby & child care. More than 20 childcare workers are on hand to take good care of your children 7 days / 90 hours a week, Sunday to Friday, from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm. Moreover, childcare is also available on Saturdays from 9.30 am to 9.00 pm, with the option of a supervised lunch and dinner.
In short, the Kids Club is fantastic! Incredible amount of space, perfectly organized – with Baby Club (0 – 2 years), Mini Club (3 – 11 years) and a Teenie Club (from 12 years upwards). To top it off, the resort offers face painting party, kids yoga, theatre and cinema performances such as welcome-show, fashion-show, super-talent, magic show, party nights and the sensational Dachsteinkönig musical! Last but not least, the kids can enjoy trips around Gosau (in some cases for a small fee), pony rides, climbing routes, biking, forest walks and much more. Need I say more?
And there is even a zoo with alpacas, mini ponies and goats.
Skiing & Snowboarding
With 142 kilometres of pistes, the Dachstein West ski region is the largest in Upper Austria. Brumsiland, located right opposite the hotel, offers play-skiing action for children. You can rent your entire ski and snowboard equipment at the shop located in the lobby. Besides, family friendly course times and good value-for-money make the children’s ski school an excellent option.

To cool off, book a Relaxation Treatment for Couples (150 minute session), or if you’re inclined to go for something more extreme, take a helicopter ride around the Alps – HELI SALZKAMMERGUT offers tours with Robinson R44 II and Ecureuil AS 350 Super D2, which take off directly from Gosau!
Best part? Dads or even adventurous moms who have a passion for motorbikes, can ride a Harley Davidson Road King here – starting April! You can tour the vibrant Salzkammergut, enjoying one of the best scenic road trips in the country.
