Now that winter is just around the corner, I thought it was about time I brought you some alpine scenes. Knowing that lots of you are avid mountain lovers, I’ve teamed up with Landhotel Römerhof to give you insight into this gem located in Gastein Valley. Here you’ll get peace, beauty and that clear stillness that only the Alps can provide.

We’ve been here for a hiking weekend, and had a romantic mini adventure which felt like a rural escape from busy city life. The slow-paced village of Dorfgastein is probably the best base to explore the area, and the breathtaking landscape reminded me of a Monet painting.

WHAT WE LOVED: This 4-star hotel is first and foremost a family hotel, with truly beautiful views and excellent service. Hosts, Hannerl & Thomas Hasenauer, warmly greet guests and lead a helpful and discreet team who offer services tailored to each guest.
Alpine Nights
Accommodation comes as Comfort Double Rooms, generous Junior Suites and Suites, Family Rooms and Apartments. All are beautifully furnished, with comfy beds and balconies or terraces that offer awesome views of the Alps. In keeping with the design of the hotel, the rooms are light, spacious and decorated in warm shades of cream, beige and green. Whether you prefer country classics or contemporary pattern check out these rooms that are sure to inspire you.

Last but not least, this is a hotel that cares about sleep… Beds are amazing! There’s enough space left over for large bathrooms with hot powerful showers, huge towels and colorful toiletries.

The cozy and stylish rooms invite you to hang around – there are spa bags and fluffy robes. Moreover, this is a pet-friendly hotel so your four-legged friend is welcome here!
Delicious Eats & Drinks
The half-board offer includes daily buffet breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is superb, with delicious breads, eggs, a wide range of regional cheeses and meats. It features freshly squeezed fruit & vegetable juices, yoghurts, yummy mueslis and patisseries.
Chef Karl Portenkirchner has an artist’s eye when it comes to presentation so expect your dinner to look sublime. Among the house specials are roastbeef, pork (Schweinsbraten, Surstelze) and fish. Moreover, the menu speaks of a chef who takes pride in local products.

The wine cellar boasts delicious vintages of Austrian and international wines that promise to accompany the meal of your dreams. So it would be easy to while away hours in this wine cellar, which has soft lighting and shelves full of tempting and delicious wines.
Wellness & Spa
Having access to Römerhof’s wellness area is another huge benefit of staying here. The spa is small but imposing, with an indoor pool, a whirlpool, a solarium and various saunas – Finnish Sauna, Bio Sauna, Infrared Sauna and Herbal Steam Room. Heaven for sauna lovers! Suprisingly, the spa rarely feels busy – you’ll often have the pool entirely for yourself.

Treatments range from classic massages, facial and body treatments to detox baths and body wraps. Make sure to book the QMS Anti Aging Facial – a special treatment with collagen and fruit acids (90 min./€ 130.00).
To top it off, the spa therapists use ALPIENNE massage oils, creams, and wraps – these products are based on old, traditional recipes and medicinal plants from the Alps. Sounds tempting, right?
GOOD TO KNOW: kids under 12 years are not allowed in the sauna area. While you’re enjoying the sauna, your little ones can have fun in the kid-friendly play room located in the basement of the hotel. And please inform the reception in advance should you require a babysitter.
To Dos While You’Re Here
Surrounded by green meadows in summer and snowy in winter, Gastein is a great location for hiking, mountain biking and golfing. Not surprisingly, some of Austria’s finest ski slopes and high-altitude trails are a cable-car ride away. On top of this, Landhotel Römerhof is in the proximity of Fulseck cable car!
Out in the wilds, you’ll find some idyllic alpine huts: Grabneralm, Amoseralm, Kögleralm, Steiner Hochalm, and Prossau beim Grünen Baum.

Alternatively, head to the Flying Fox in Bad Gastein for a memorable ride on rollers suspended from a steel cable. You’ll float above the famous Gastein Waterfall and experience a bird’s-eye view of Bad Gastein’s spectacular architecture.

Landhotel Römerhof is ideal for couples or families looking for a fun outdoor getaway. A stay here is as uplifting as the surround views of the Alps. Don’t delay, book yourself in and leave as if walking on air!
