It’s quite a drive from Vienna but really worth the time – a scenic journey through Felbertauern and you reach Gradonna Mountain Resort, one truly special hotel which sits in a league of its own.

The four-star superior Gradonna Mountain Resort is majestically located up the mountains of East Tyrol in Kals am Großglockner, featuring clean lines and an abundant use of wood and glass to amplify its setting at 1350 metres altitude.

Overview
The owners of Gradonna Mountain Resort have put a lot of thought into creating a stay that offers wellness and relaxation in huge doses. Upon entering the resort, the fresh wood smell in the lobby will hit all your senses at once. A beautiful touch of natural colors was poured into the Scandinavian style interior design of this luxury resort.

Especially impressive, is the attention to detail – from the modern & minimalist décor to the incredible 3000 sq m wellness area.
Wellness & Spa
With a focus on sustainability, the Gradonna Spa’s luxury is not about excess, opulence or lavishness but rather about getting closer to nature.

If you go to Gradonna, pamper yourself – you deserve it! Under the soothing touch of a professional therapist, you will revive and recharge. Book the Lomi mountain herb massage and the Alpienne zeolite ritual and I bet you don’t want to go home anymore! You might jump right into the awesome pools.

You’ll feel light and refreshed after the heavenly massages, and there’s nothing better than the comfy sun loungers to enjoy the mountain views.

If you visit Gradonna during the summer months, go dive into the 700 sq m solar heated swimming lake. Gradonna Mountain Resort received the Green Luxury Award 2014 for luxury eco-friendly hotels – a tribute to the energy saving measures and use of natural materials.

Wining & Dining
Apart from offering world-class spa and sauna experiences, Gradonna Mountain Resort also boosts a sophisticated restaurant which serves delicious and nutritionally sound cuisine.

Longing for an after dinner drink? The stylish bar at Gradonna Mountain Resort reveals a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy your drink inside or if the weather allows – on the generous outside terrace.

If you’re a wine connoisseur and look for a wine tasting session with a sommelier, make an appointment in advance. But be prepared, there’s no easy choice – they have an extensive wine collection. Try their Californian Shiraz and you’ll thank me later!

Rooms & Suites
I’m keen on hotel rooms with beautiful views and comfortable balconies where you can spend lazy mornings to catch up on a book. Our 30 sq m Classic Double Room had jaw-dropping views!

Chalets
Gradonna is located directly at the Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei. If you’re a winter sports fan like I am, you’ll be delighted to stay here – you can ski in and out of the resort! I am planning to return the upcoming ski season, so I went to check on the Chalet De Luxe accommodation.

Luxurious and stylish! The Chalet De Luxe features 250 sq m, an exclusively equipped kitchen with spacious living and lounge area and 3 bedrooms with adjacent bathrooms. It can host up to 8 persons and has a “Private Spa” with sauna, deep heat cabin and fresh air atrium.

With all that being said, the weekend escape in Kals am Grossglockner topped my expectations! Gradonna management, take a bow!
MUST-SEE
Gradonna is only a short drive away from the foot of the Grossglockner – the highest mountain in Austria (3,798m). It’s probably the most beautiful landscape in East Tyrol – with a small creek running down from the mountain peak.

Thank you to the Schultz Group for the fantastic stay! All opinions, as always, are my own.
