Relaxing on the Shores of Wolfgang Lake: Hotel Peter

If you’ve been bitten by the travel bug, there’s a high chance that you just love to find new and exciting destinations to visit. So, where are you heading next? Well, maybe you should visit Sankt Wolfgang, a charming and beautiful town located in one of Austria’s most beautiful regions – the Lake District – just beyond the gates of Salzburg.

Sankt Wolfgang in Salzkammergut

So what’s the appeal, exactly? St. Wolfgang is a breathtaking town, full of vibrant colors, narrow streets, and a stunning lake. The 11 kilometers long and up to two and a half kilometers wide Wolfgang Lake will make you feel like in a fairy tale. The emerald green waters and majestic Alps are the biggies, plus the fact that the fragrance of fresh air invigorates both body and spirit.

Not only is the Peter Hotel one of the most romantic hotels in Salzkammergut Lake District, but it’s also family run for 3 generations, so you can expect top-notch service – in fact, the welcoming vibe begins once you enter the lobby of the hotel.

Down here, it’s all about Old World.

Quality is apparent everywhere – noble sofas, oil paintings, chandeliers, numerous antiques, and the hotel boasts even a small library.

Interiors are an elegant blend of traditional touches and Art Deco features, a characteristic that extends to the traditionally styled guest rooms as well. Simply put, this property feels like a cozy home, not like a hotel.

Rooms & Suites By The Lake

The style is beautiful in its simplicity with rustic wooden furnishings and light, warm and soothing colours. There are also mini-fridges, safes, and flat-screen TVs. The Standard Rooms are a comfortable choice but for something a little more spacious opt for a Suite with 2 bedrooms – perfect for families with kids.

GOOD TO KNOW: If a vacation simply isn’t complete without your pet at your side, you’ll be happy to know that this is a pet-friendly hotel. So cancel the pet sitter, pack the treats, and hit the road! Moreover, dogs are allowed even in the restaurant here.

Delicious Eats

PAUL der wirt serves a fine-dining menu of traditional regional cooking and international dishes. The restaurant has gone through extensive restyling to create beautiful contemporary spaces with calming light wood and traditional décor.

The breakfast features an excellent selection of hot and cold items including a wide choice of breads, cheeses, egg, and meats. A delicious lunch and a gourmet dinner which is best enjoyed as you look over the lake, is served here, so the most sought after tables are those located on the terrace.

Make sure to spend a long day under a parasol on the hotel’s terrace where refreshing cocktails are served.

The delicious beef tartar, the famous Tafelspitz, the medium-rare Zwiebelrostbraten and the pan-fried trout receive all the gastronomic glory, while the green apple & mint parfait is a delight in its own right. Intimate candle light dining may also be arranged on the terrace, and no dinner is complete without a bottle of red wine.

The drinking selection, which features mostly excellent Austrian wines, is worth writing home about. So don’t miss the chance to enjoy a Roter Oktober – Zweigelt & Merlot von Wolfgang Seher.

To Dos While You’Re Here

St Wolfgang is one of the most charming places in Austria, and there are so many epic things you can see and do here. Stroll arm-in-arm up the romantic streets, whisper to the swans swimming on the lake, then take a boat tour. Six ships of the Wolfgangseeschifffahrt cruise several times every day between the seven ship docs around the lake.

The many bars and cafés of Sankt Wolfgang are also just a short walk away and provide the ideal location for watching the world go by. Best part? The magic of St. Wolfgang  lives on its streets!

Souvenirs are small and easy to pack.

There’s something about having a little piece of a place to yourself.

Last but not least, the hotel is just a 40-minute drive to the scenic Hallstatt town. The Hallstätter Lake and the town of Hallstatt both fall under the Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut Alpine UNESCO World Heritage Site. Be sure to take your kids to visit SALZWELTEN – the oldest salt mine in the world.

But if you’re more into cultural activities, then dress up and head to the Salzburg State Theatre for a memorable evening. Salzburg is less than an hour away, and easily accessible via rental car.

See the adorning window curtains? That chandelier? Like stepping back in time…

With all that being said, this is an idyllic hotel – a great weekend retreat, and one that you have to discover for yourself. Go there!

INSIDER TIP: Book your 3-night stay (or longer) between 1st of April to 30th of June 2019 by using the code EXPAT2019, and you’ll receive one complimentary candle light dinner for two paired with a bottle of wine. Besides, during the warmer months, water activities are plentiful here – windsurfing, swimming, diving, waterskiing, stand up paddling and kayaking.
