I spent New Year’s Eve in Travel Charme Bergresort Werfenweng, an exclusive 4-star superior hotel, located in the charming and family friendly ski area of St Johann im Pongau.
Together with a group of friends with kids, we enjoyed the slopes of Werfenweng during the day and relaxed in fabulous surroundings during the evenings.

What I liked best about Travel Charme Bergresort Werfenweng, is the refreshingly stylish interior, designed by the renowned Italian architect Lorenzo Bellini. The resort has a spectacular lounge with a huge modern fireplace, a cozy reading corner and a chic lobby bar with an amazing assortment of Austrian and international wines.

We spoiled ourselves there, while the kids were called to the inviting playroom for the little ones, so everyone had the time to relax and select a wine from the 250 choices displayed in the bar!
Being a group with kids, we chose the apartments in the adjacent residence buildings in order to better organize our stay and have more space for the bunch of bags and ski stuff we were using during our vacation. Our 1-bedroom apartment was spacious and comfortable, featuring a big terrace and stunning mountain views. We also had a small fireplace in the living area, which we used in the evening.

While there, we skied at -11 degrees, hit the bar for some après ski and spent our afternoons in the state-of-the-art PURIA Premium Spa, the best antidote to the icy ski weather.

The laconium with the heated loungers and the resting rooms were the perfect treat for us.

For dinner we tried both restaurants in the resort – Feinspitz with cooking show and beautiful panorama windows, and the gourmet restaurant Alpenzeit with traditional regional cuisine. Both were great, I couldn’t tell which appealed most to me!

Werfenweng is a small village located in a beautiful valley, so we took a trip with the horse sledge to get the full view of the area. It’s a truly magnificent scenery, quiet and traditional, and the horse sledge trip was a great choice to discover some old “Alms” (mountain huts in German), where you can taste local traditional food and the popular après-ski drinks in Austria (Glühwein and Jägertee).

In Austria, New Year’s Eve – Sylvesterabend – is usually no more than a fancy dinner and generally you are sent back to bed by 1.00 a.m. in the morning. This happened to us quite a few times till now – but not at Travel Charme Bergresort Werfenweng! The team did a great job! Excellent fireworks show, which we watched from the lobby terrace, plus entertainment program with live music managed to keep us awake till dawn – including the happy & enthusiastic kids!
If you’re looking for a family ski vacation with spectacular scenery, stylish accommodation combined with an array of exciting activities, Travel Charme Bergresort Werfenweng is a top choice!
